Tasks set and completed since last meeting: (23rd October 2018)

·         Weekly update of Blog: https://andreamcswan-phd-lightfortheblind.blogspot.com. 70 posts
·         Permanent desk allocated, as I am class rep! in room 5011 (next to the bridge).
·         Plus a laptop is in the pipeline.
·         Met with Caroline Erolin. Good discussion about VR. Wishes to be copied in on communication. VR training scheduled for 12th December. Google cardboard purchased and VR apps to be experimented with.
·         Made contact with PhD community and will be one of six who will arrange the research talks in the Research Kitchen in 2019.
·         Research Review Panel – Have become the Student Rep
·         Timeline Year 1 – created
·         Mind-mapping created (on wall in 5011) plus on my blog
·         Scoping commenced
·         Library one-to-one appointment with specialist librarian attended. “search” training within DJCAD databases completed.
·         Endnote library created and literature, practice and context review is underway. Abstracts read and adding to library for now.
·         Researched UoD expectations and rules regarding quality of PhD Thesis and Viva. Recorded on blog
·         Attended Lauren Baker upgrade. Notes taken and on blog.
·         Context and literature review commenced. Researching blind photographers, film makers and VR. Currently underway and logged in my Endnote library

·         OPD Responsible and Ethical Research: Research Integrity Training. Completed.
·         OPD The Complete Researcher Launchpad – 6 hour course completed. Uploaded onto blog
·         OPD Endnote training completed in main library. Endnote library created
·         Information Security Awareness – mandatory online course. Passed and completed.
·         Teaching MSc Animation & VFX and Undergraduate VFX module
·         LTHE sessions 4 & 5. Final session (session 1) to be in January. Plus I have to arrange to have a lesson observed.


Events attended
·         Research Away Day – presented 5 slides on research and future plans. Malmaison 29th October. Joe de Lappe Ghandi. Met John Anderson VRC? Crawford Building. Will meet again informally in due course.
·         NEoN Mini-Symposium ‘lifespans’ at the V&A – 9th November Gaming and Digital Design symposium. Dark. Gaming world. I prefer narrative and pragmatic outcomes.
·         Film – Bohemian Rhapsody
·         V&A – Speed and Style
·         Research EXPO – attended and met with fellow PhDs
·         Research Kitchen Talks – Fraser Bruce and Callum Colvin 22nd Nov

·         EAD Conference – 9 – 11th April Connected with Louise Valentine and discussed EAD. Followed up with Fiona and there is no funding for EAD, but I may be able to get some assistance. Form to complete and submit.

·         Check for UK and global projects, organisations and creative initiatives within the realm of blindness
·         Research and establish how the blind population sit within the community and map the demographic
·         What design/film/visual fields are relevant to my research. What field is my research in and therefore, where does it fit within that?
·         What creative inclusive practice has been undertaken around the world, regarding blindness? (e.g Dialogue in the Dark)
·         Explorations design method. Map of the world. Map of UK. Map of Scotland. Map of Dundee?
