Sally Booth - qualms and queries prior to participation January 14 2020

Insights:

Prior to conducting a semi-structured interview, I had a phone call with Sally Booth, to discuss her qualms and queries with some of the terminology in the informed consent and participant forms.

Notes taken:

1). A few terms are problematic e.g "The Blind". It's old fashioned and considered a collective noun and offensive. The term "Blind and Partially Sighted People" is more acceptable.
2) 'Blind Art' and 'Blind Artists' - Sally does not consider herself to be making 'blind art'.
3) The term 'for the blind' sounds like a 19th century charity
4) 'Light for the Blind' sounds biblical

Sally was happy to participate on condition that terminology was changed, particularly as this was an opportunity to introduce acceptable terms, for papers going forward
